A Secret Place

Knutte Wester

26 July - 6 August 2019

Azad Art Gallery is proud to present A Secret Place, a compelling solo exhibition by acclaimed Swedish artist Knutte Wester. Running from 26 July to 6 August 2019, the exhibition features a selection of Wester's poignant video installations and sculpture, delving into themes of urban alienation, displacement, and the transformative power of art and sanctuary.

Wester's work offers a profound meditation on the human condition, often observing moments of vulnerability and resilience within marginalised communities. This exhibition brings together three significant pieces that challenge viewers to confront indifference, question imposed boundaries, and discover spaces of refuge and creation.

A Secret Place, offers a unique opportunity to experience Wester's evocative storytelling and his ability to find profound humanity in overlooked or challenging situations. The exhibition invites contemplation on our shared responsibilities, the invisible lines that divide us, and the extraordinary resilience found in creating beauty and sanctuary, even in the most hidden places.

Knutte Wester's work possesses a rare quiet intensity. He compels us to look closely at moments we might otherwise ignore – the plight of the overlooked, the weight of invisible borders, the fragile beauty of makeshift shelter. 'A Secret Place', especially the bronze hut born from collaboration and refuge, is a deeply moving symbol of art's power to preserve and transform. We are honoured to present this significant body of work to London audiences."

Note: A selection of paintings related to Wester's film A Bastard Child will be shown concurrently at the Iranian Artist Foundation.
