Rozita Sharafjahan (born 1962, Tehran) is a contemporary Iranian sculptor, painter, and video artist. She holds a Master’s degree in Art Research and a Bachelor’s degree in Painting, both from the University of Tehran. She is the founder and director of Azad Gallery and a member of the Iranian Painters’ Association.
Her works often explore themes of cultural memory, collective identity, and socio-political issues, particularly within the context of Iranian society in the shadow of the 1979 Revolution. She is known for her use of found motifs from Iran’s historical and popular culture. By re-examining archival mate- rials, she reflects on the past and its lasting effects on the present, revealing hidden or suppressed aspects of society—such as patriarchal violence or injustice.
She has participated in the 9th Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai, China (2019); the Paris International Contemporary Art Triennial, Paris, France (2013); the 5th Gyumri Biennial of Art, curated by Arupine Tokmajian in Gyumri, Armenia (2006); and the 2nd Painting Biennial at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Iran (1994). Her works are held in notable international collections, such as the Belotti Museum in Italy.
