Fugue of Rebirth

Tara Azarm

4 - 15 October 2024

Azad Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Iranian artist Tara Azarm, titled Fugue of Rebirth, running from October 4th to October 15th, 2024.

Known for her intricate pencil drawings, Azarm’s work is characterized by a "fluid and infinite creation process". Her pieces feature elements that are constantly "concealing and revealing," creating images that exist on the edge of being and non-being. This process results in fragmental and collage-like images that explore a part of the viewer's "eclectic contemporary identity".

Azarm's technique involves a strong contrast between lines and shadows, particularly in organic and non-geometric sections. The artist's detailed lines are connected and sometimes intertwined, demonstrating her mastery in controlling lines and playing with different textures. The pencil allows Azarm to create varying degrees of opacity and light by changing pressure and movement. Rather than using color, she explores the possibilities and limitations of a single tone.

The exhibition highlights Azarm's ability to transform two-dimensional works into a kind of "three-dimensional organism". Using a precise shading technique, she creates volume and texture, giving depth and dimension to her forms. Her use of biological structures in her work suggests a connection between science and art. The organic forms, inspired by plant or animal structures, resemble living cells or sea creatures composed of microscopic and organ-like parts.

Azarm’s drawings, sometimes complex and intricate, evoke a surreal personality or a transcendent being. Through these works, she conveys a sense of mystery to the viewer, transferring mental and imaginary concepts. This exhibition invites the audience to contemplate the similarities and differences in conceptual tables.
