Yazesh
Hamed Sahihi
15 - 26 May 2015
Azad Gallery presents Yazesh, a solo exhibition by acclaimed Iranian artist Hamed Sahihi, running from 15 to 26 May 2015. Through new paintings and multimedia works, Sahihi investigates the Persian concept of "Yazesh" — a vital force driving growth, movement, and entanglement in all living systems.
Yazesh (یازش) — a rare Persian verb evoking "intention, growth, tension, and bend" — anchors Sahihi’s exploration of nature’s hidden choreography. As the artist describes:
"Roots, branches, nerves, and wings exist in perpetual Yazesh: entwined, stretching toward one another. This vital act binds life’s fragments into wholeness."
The exhibition visualises this universal principle through dynamic compositions where organic forms coil, converge, and strain against boundaries. Sahihi’s works echo processes from cellular division to human connection, framing "Yazesh" as the invisible thread weaving all existence.
Sahihi (b. 1980, Tehran) holds an MA in Painting from Tehran Art University and trained under filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami. A prolific voice in Iran’s contemporary art scene, he has mounted 18 solo shows since 1997 — including Headline (2013), Bulimia (2012), and White Box (2010) at Azad Gallery. His practice merges literary sensitivity with visceral abstraction, earning recognition in over 100 group exhibitions both nationally an internationally.
